Motorola today posted a third quarter loss as revenue fell a steeper-than-expected 15 percent due to the continued troubles of its cell phone division.

Verizon said today earnings rose 31 percent in the third quarter as wireless did better than expected.
The telecom company also said that its acquisition of Alltel was beneficial in the long run, making it the largest U.S. carrier, surpassing AT&T.
Verizon's third-quarter profit rose to $1.67 billion, or 59 cents a share, from $1.27 billion, or 44 cents a share in the same quarter a year earlier.

Samsung today announced plans to bring their customizable touch screen user interface in the U.S. market.
Their new TouchWiz UI has specially designed widgets to personalize commonly used applications. Organized on the home screen, users can pick from several widgets preinstalled applications such as the web, music player, instant messaging, Bluetooth and navigation services.

Following its competitors, Sprint will soon begin reducing the fees customers face for canceling their cell phone service early.
CEO Dan Hesse said today that Sprint could start lowering the early termination fees as soon as December, once the company updates its billing software.
The fee of $200 or more is charged to consumers who cancel their plan before their two-year contract ends.
